The executive of Munyonyo Martyrs Shrine, together with Parish Priest Fr. Male, has organised a fundraiser dubbed The Divine Mercy Encounter – Edition 2 to raise funds for the construction of a 15-metre Statue of the Divine Mercy Jesus.

The event, scheduled for November 30th in the parish gardens, will bring together parishioners and well-wishers dedicated to supporting the completion of the Divine Mercy Chapel. Participation tickets are priced at UGX 200,000.

The event will be held under the theme “God of the Impossible, Let’s Do It Again.” According to the Parish Priest, the theme was inspired by the parish’s remarkable journey of faith.

He explains that raising funds for such a major project may appear impossible for one of the youngest parishes, a vision that, only a few years ago, seemed beyond reach. Today, however, the parish stands as a testament to God’s faithfulness, as the once-distant dream steadily becomes reality.

“The theme serves as both a declaration of gratitude and a renewal of faith. This expresses our belief that God will once again make the impossible possible for His glory,” said Fr. Male.

Unlike last year, when only one choir performed during the fundraising concert, this year’s event will feature six (6) choirs from Munyonyo Parish. Their participation is intended to enrich the fundraiser with a more vibrant, engaging, and spiritually uplifting atmosphere.

About the Divine Mercy Chapel and Statue

On December 8, 2024, the Divine Mercy Adoration Chapel at Munyonyo was officially inaugurated for full use following the completion of phase one.

Since the chapel’s opening, many have eagerly awaited the arrival of the 15-metre Divine Mercy Statue, which will be mounted at the top of the chapel. The statue is currently being fabricated and assembled in Rzeszów, Poland.

The statue is being constructed in six separate sections, each made individually. So far, the team of artists, led by Marcin and Ula, has completed half of the statue. They are working daily to assemble the structural elements, floor by floor. Each floor is first constructed in the workshop, then disassembled to allow for the addition of the next section.

Once the full statue is complete, it will be disassembled, packed into containers, and shipped to Uganda. The installation process in Uganda is expected to begin within a year.

“If the necessary funds are available, we expect the statue to arrive within 22 or so months,” says Fr. Male.

Before construction began, the team conducted extensive research and sought quotations from companies in India, China, and Poland. Ultimately, they chose to work with the Polish artists due to the generous discounts offered and the willingness of several individuals to volunteer their services.

“They are charging us only for materials and very little for labour,” explained Fr. Male.

The Divine Mercy Adoration Chapel has been under construction since its groundbreaking in 2017. The final step to its full completion is the installation of the 15-metre statue.

The statue, which will face the expressway from Munyonyo to Kajjansi, is envisioned to stand as a symbol of love, faith, and divine protection for all those travelling along the route to and from Entebbe.

The faithful are encouraged to support the project financially by purchasing tickets at only UGX 200,000 from the parish office, as only those with tickets shall attend the event. All the money collected from this event will directly contribute to bringing the statue home.

We thank you for your generosity.
