Proposed artistic design of 15 meter-high Divine Mercy Jesus statue to be placed on the top of our Adoration Chapel

The proposed design of the statue is inspired by the apparition of Jesus to St. Faustina Kowalska, the Apostle of Divine Mercy

A headline to make a big impact on visitors

Standing 15 meters tall, the statue will rise on the roof of the Adoration Chapel, bringing the message of mercy and hope to all who see it. Oriented towards the new Entebbe Expressway at the Kampala/Wakiso boundary, the statue will be visible to all entering Kampala City from the Kajjansi direction—serving as both a landmark and a spiritual signpost.

Central Alignment (Red Line):
The design shows a strong axial line (highlighted in red) running from the Divine Mercy statue up to the shrine tabernacle. This symbolizes the rays of Divine Mercy flowing directly from the Heart of Jesus to the Eucharist in the tabernacle. It visually and spiritually connects the statue with the altar, emphasizing Christ’s presence and mercy through the Blessed Sacrament.
Divine Mercy Statue:
The statue of Jesus stands prominently on an elevated platform in front of the martyrs relics chapel space. From the heart of Jesus, the rays (flames of Divine Mercy) extend straight toward the chapel, symbolizing His mercy reaching the faithful through the Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration in the chapel .
Amphitheater & Gathering Area:
In the back side of the statue is a large, open-air space which is designed for gatherings, liturgical celebrations, and prayer services. Its semicircular seating allows the faithful to focus on the statue while also being connected with the chapel in the background.
Munyonyo Martyrs shrine minor basilica Structure:
The shrine itself, dome-shaped with a large cross rising above it, serves as the sacred destination point of the Divine Mercy rays. The alignment makes it clear that Christ, represented in the statue, is pointing and sending His rays of mercy directly into the heart of the shrine – tabernacle.
Symbolism:
The entire design expresses that the mercy of Christ flows without interruption: from His Sacred Heart → through the rays of Divine Mercy → directly into the tabernacle, where His real presence in the Eucharist dwells. This makes the whole place a visible catechesis of Divine Mercy devotion.
