“Everyone is born original, but many die as photocopies”. This is one of the most famous quotes from St Carlo Acutis, also known as God’s Influencer and the Patron Saint of the Internet, whose first-class relics are now at Munyonyo.

The first millennial to become a Catholic saint, Carlo was born on May 3, 1991, in London.

As a young Catholic, Carlo loved the Holy Eucharist and spent time in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, as well as researching and documenting Eucharistic miracles on the internet.

He described the Eucharist as his highway to heaven, explaining that the more the faithful receive the Eucharist, the more they become like Jesus and will foretaste paradise on earth.

Having died of leukaemia at the age of 15 on October 10, 2006, the young Carlo had already taught many youths about the Eucharist through his writings on the internet.

“Many people, in my opinion do not really understand the value of Holy Mass to the full, because if they realized the great fortune that the Lord has given us by giving himself as our food and drink in the Holy Host, they would go to church every day to participate in the fruits of the sacrifice, and would renounce so many superfluous things,” said St Carlo.

He attended daily Mass, believed in the communion of saints, and acknowledged that his most important friendship was with Jesus.

Following the recognition of a miracle involving the healing of a Brazilian child, he was beatified by Pope Francis on October 10, 2020, in Assisi.

Carlo Acutis was canonized as a saint by Pope Leo XIV on September 7, 2025, becoming the Catholic Church’s first millennial saint and Patron of the Internet.

On Saturday, May 9, 2026, the Rector of Munyonyo Shrine received the relics of St Carlo Acutis, which will be placed in the Divine Mercy Adoration Chapel on October 12, his feast day.

The relics are currently hosted in the Relics Chapel for private veneration. This addition expands the collection of relics at Munyonyo, which includes those of St Faustina, St Pope John Paul II, St Maximilian Kolbe, St Josephine Bakhita, the Holy Uganda Martyrs, Blessed Michael Sopocko, among others.

Today, many young people around the world have followed St Carlo’s example by using the internet for evangelisation rather than posting only worldly content. We encourage all Christians, especially the youth, to make use of the Adoration Chapel at Munyonyo to spend time with Jesus and to attend daily Mass, as Carlo did.

He was once concerned that large crowds gathered in stadiums to watch musicians, while only a few people attended Adoration when Jesus was exposed in the Blessed Sacrament. May we follow his example of using the internet to share the wonderful works of the Lord and seek St Carlo’s intercession in doing so.

St Carlo Acutis, Pray for us.
