The Catholic Women’s Guild of Munyonyo Parish celebrated its Annual Parish Day on Sunday, 19th July 2026, with a day of prayer, reflection, fellowship, exhibitions, dinner and entertainment at the Our Lady of Sorrows Grotto, MunyonyoMartyrs Shrine.
The celebrations began with Holy Mass for the Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, presided over by Fr Ronnie.
In his homily, Fr Ronnie reflected on the day’s readings, reminding the faithful that Christians are called to live just and righteous lives, reflecting God’s mercy by forgiving others as He continually forgives us. He encouraged the congregation to embrace sincere repentance, noting that God patiently waits for those who willingly turn back to Him.
Reflecting on the Gospel, Fr Ronnie explained that although God plants good seed in the world, the enemy also sows weeds. He reminded the faithful that moments of weakness, hardship or discouragement can become opportunities for evil to take root if Christians are not spiritually vigilant. He encouraged everyone to remain steadfast in doing good despite the presence of evil around them.
He also cautioned against judging others too quickly, noting that Christ allows both the wheat and the weeds to grow together until the harvest. Using the examples of the mustard seed and the yeast from the Gospel, Fr Ronnie encouraged Christians to be agents of transformation, whose faith and actions positively influence their families, communities and society.
Speaking directly to the women, he commended the Catholic Women’s Guild for being like the yeast in the Gospel, quietly but powerfully enriching the lives of others through their service, faith and commitment to the Church.
Following Mass, the women attended a financial empowerment session led by Ms Prossy Namubiru, a banker with Centenary Bank and a member of the Catholic Women’s Guild. She encouraged members to embrace creativity, hard work and financial discipline by starting income-generating activities, saving for investment, developing new skills, planning finances as families, borrowing responsibly and avoiding impulsive spending. She urged the women to make full use of their talents and opportunities to improve their livelihoods.
The Munyonyo Catholic Women’s Guild also welcomed their counterparts from Buwaya Parish, led by their Ssabakristu, in a spirit of unity and fellowship.
Members showcased a variety of products, including candles produced under one of the Guild’s income-generating projects launched earlier this year. Three members were recognised with appreciation awards for their outstanding service and dedication to the Catholic Women’s Guild.
The celebrations concluded with cultural performances, traditional dances, dinner and fellowship, making it a joyful and memorable Parish Day for all who attended.
