Christians at Munyonyo Martyrs Shrine have been urged to generously support the 2026 Sabasumba Annual Appeal Fund (SAAFU), an initiative of Kampala Archdiocese that brings together the People of God to support the mission and pastoral work of the Church through shared responsibility.
This year’s SAAFU campaign is focusing on the construction of the Priests Rest and Recuperation Centre at Bweya, a home intended to care for elderly priests who have dedicated their lives to serving God and His people.
The two-year project will be developed on 20 acres of land and is presented under the appeal: “A Home for Our Priests.” It is intended to provide elderly priests with an appropriate environment in which they can rest, recuperate and receive care after many years of pastoral service.
The campaign is inspired by the understanding that everything Christians possess ultimately comes from God. As 1 Chronicles 29:14 reminds us, what we give is what we have received from the Lord. SAAFU 2026 is therefore an invitation to Christians to put their faith into action with the theme: “Transforming Lives by putting Faith into Action” (James 2:14-17)
The Archdiocese aims to mobilise about 2.1 million Catholics, with each Christian encouraged to contribute at least UGX 10,000 per year, equivalent to approximately UGX 833 per month. The overall SAAFU 2026 fundraising target is UGX 20.32 billion.
Under the current arrangement, 30% of all collections return to parishes, helping strengthen pastoral activities and local Church development.
Therefore, Fr Male, the Parish Priest of Munyonyo Martyrs Shrine,appeals to parishioners and other well-wishers to participate actively in the campaign.
The Kampala Vicariate will officially hand over its SAAFU 2026 contribution to the Archbishop of Kampala, His Grace Paul Ssemogerere, on Sunday, 6 September 2026, at Lubaga Cathedral.
About SAAFU
SAAFU was founded in 2007 by the late Archbishop Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga and revived in 2023 by Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere. Over the years, contributions from Christians have supported several important Church and charitable projects.
Among the initiatives supported through SAAFU are the renovation of Lubaga Cathedral and the construction of the new Archdiocesan Administration Block at Lubaga in 2010. SAAFU also supported the welfare of four charity homes: Mapeera Bakateyamba’s Home, Kyasira Home of Hope, Kankobe Children’s Centre and Missionaries of the Poor, among several other projects.
